Oh my goodness, do I have some things to say about this article from Salon called, Godless grifters: How the New Atheists merged with the far right.

First the tagline, “What once seemed like a bracing intellectual movement has degenerated into a pack of abusive, small-minded bigots.” A bracing intellectual movement?? Say what?! One really doesn’t know whether to laugh or cry. Let’s just say if you accuse either the new atheists or the far right of having, “a bracing intellect,” you are hereby disqualified from observing objective reality.

Like duh, of course they are abusive, small minded bigots. Also, lacking natural affection. Hard nosed, self absorbed bullies, devoid of empathy. Aren’t we all without Christ? Is this breaking news to anybody??

So the alt right and the new atheists pretty much believe that human reason is the path to progress and that our intelligence will save us, and in the process make us better people, kinder, more moral, unlike those superstitious religious nuts from the Bronze Age.

The article goes on to say almost comically, “Many of the most prominent New Atheists turned out to be nothing more than self-aggrandizing, dogmatic, irascible, censorious, morally compromised people who, at every opportunity, have propped up the powerful over the powerless, the privileged over the marginalized.”

Yeah? Call me crazy, but if I’m an evolutionary fluke worshiping at the altar of human intelligence, why in the heck would I chose to prop up the powerless and look after the marginalized?? Forget “dogmatic and censorious,” I’d be downright carnivorous. You know what we call the “marginalized and powerless” in an evolutionary world? Prey.

Collateral damage, fish food, unnecessary weight.

I follow Jesus, so grace, mercy, empathy. Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. “What you do for the least of these, you do for me.” People are made in the image of God, including the powerless and the marginalized. Without Jesus in the equation, a godless evolution demands and requires that I become dogmatic, irascible, censorious, morally compromised, and…. carnivorious.

Dog eat dog.

I spent a number of years calling out assorted people on the right side of the internet aisle for this very thing, for worshipping at the altar of human intelligence and reason, while disparaging empathy, compassion, grace, all while claiming to be a Christian. Why? Because worshipping human intelligence is inevitably anti-christ.

All in good humor here, but love is just not intelligent! Neither is self sacrifice, loyalty, or gentleness. The things that are good in the world, the things that make life worth living are not intelligent and reason based at all, they belong to the heart and the spirit. His spirit.

Phil Torres, philosopher and author, misses a significant and obvious conclusion here, the new atheists have human intelligence seated on the throne like the goddess of reason during the French revolution. Grifters are gonna grift! It is inevitable. There is nothing the least bit coherent on the left side of the aisle for an evolutionist to sink their teeth into. It is not based on science, it is not based on reason, it does not respect facts, and it does not honor intelligence.

One simply cannot self identify as a “bracing intellect” and be a leftist at the same time. That is incongruent.

All this time invested in his article and then Phil Torres proceeds to reach another false conclusion and inform us, ‘‘secular people are markedly less nationalistic, less prejudiced, less anti-Semitic, less racist, less dogmatic, less ethnocentric, less close-minded, and less authoritarian than religious people.”

Dude, you just wasted ten minutes of my life documenting and lamenting the precise opposite!

Ai Yi Yi.

About 10 years ago I wrote an article called “Perfect confluence, Unholy Trinity,” all about the convergence of the red pills, the new atheists, and the alt right. The essence of that was, “choose this day who you will serve” because there is no middle ground, no best of both worlds, no lukewarm place.
