I snagged that title in part from an article that didn’t impress me at all called, “sometimes you drain the swamp and sometimes it drains you.”
Nope! You never let the swamp drain you. In fact, it is your sacred duty not to. I’ve been living in the swamp for darn near my entire life. You can just call me Shrek or perhaps, Fiona. Regardless, the swamp is my natural habitat and I know it well, not by choice, but it is what it is. So all this talk about how the “swamp won” is just bogus. The swamp has been a way of life for as long as I can remember. It probably began with an unfortunate apple in a garden long ago. Stop acting as if the world was sin free a few weeks ago and the bad guys just rose to power! Jesus Christ was crucified some 2000 years ago by His own government.
Special swampy shout out to my county commissioners currently discussing the value of psilocybin mushrooms in helping to keep your constituents docile and complacent. No, that is not a joke, darkly humorous perhaps, but it’s real enough. That is exactly what they are currently doing. Apparently the meth, heroin, and cannabis are not enough, let’s bring on the mushrooms. Now me, if I were an alien lizard overlord, I’d have some qualms about the kind of world I was creating that required it’s inhabitants to all be higher than crap just to function in it, but that’s just me. Fortunately none of my fearless leaders are burdened by such concerns. Needless to say, I’m just some sort of radical-extremist-hater all denying the potential medicinal value of psilocybin. Welcome to the swamp.
You don’t never drain the swamp or as my grandpa used to say, you just can’t fight city hall. You can however, get in a few good kicks. Never underestimate the power of a well aimed kick. Also, you can learn how to stop the swamp from draining you. I kid you not, this is a valuable life skill. I think you really have to lean into the Lord, and you have to learn how to laugh a lot. The swamp might be all around you, but you sure don’t have to let it in you. I still struggle with this a lot. It’s a constant balancing act. Many days have ended with me just sitting in my car in tears because the world is so broken and people are so stupid.
Never let the swamp drain you.
That is just as true in politics as it is in our individual lives. Be careful where you focus your attention and what you invest your energy in. Ignore them. Always easier said than done, but to some extent pay them no heed. Beyond using them for some comedic fodder, invest no emotional energy in them. Also, if you really want to rebel, stay away from the substances that cloud your vision and turn you into an endless government revenue stream. Crooks, criminals, and addicts are a commodity. Victimhood is extremely profitable…….just not for you.
Also, put your feet up and make yourself at home.
As a wise old man once told me: “pop a bowl of Orville Reddenbacher’s and watch the world burn.” Probably the best advice I’ve ever received, but no one’s going to judge you if you keep a garden hose next to your popcorn.

Yep! My dad used to tell me that sometimes we really need to just sit down and watch the world go by. You are right, it is often on fire, always good to have some popcorn on hand and a garden hose nearby. 🙂

Love this and have missed being on here… was feeling like I let all of it drain me so I took a break from the inter webs. But in the midst of all the new chaos, I’m finding there is a way to live life quite fully while things predictably head south. Christians have got to get a grip on a lot of things this year if we are going to make it through this swamp… thank you for your always honest words and humor!

It’s so nice to hear from you! You were missed, but it sounds like you’ve had a productive break from the interwebs. Absolutely, Christians can live a full and productive life while everything around us is circling the drain. In fact, we can even have some fun with it. 🙂

I am with you! Know your enemy! In my opinion, they have underestimated those of us that rely on His strength and Love. They have no understanding. I think we know them better than they know themselves, due to our willingness to be humble. We are warriors and will not quietly submit. I have my armor on. We’re on the side of the Truth. I am comfortable in the muck and have company, wink wink!

Yes, the belt of Truth! One if the many belts that come to mind is the “ski belt” we used to wear waterskiing, so that when we wiped out we would stay afloat and not sink into the lake (or swamp.)

This is awesome and was much needed today. I had already decided to take a break from the Swamp today, which for me is debating on social media. I recognize that I’ve been letting it consume all of my attention, so I’m not going to let it in anymore. I’m going to find ways to laugh and enjoy the day with my family and with God.

I have visions of Alice in her magical world, surrounded by cakes that tell her to eat them and drinks beckoning her to drink. Also the mushroom factor. The swamp is just another place to wallow. We don’t need anymore of those kinds of places. Our wallowing has been paid for.

Ha! Exactly, it is all much like Wonderland out there! The Mad Hatter’s Tea Party for sure. But no wallowing in the swamp allowed, we are royalty, the sons and daughters of most High God and our debt has been paid. So many people need to hear that message, to be lifted up, to discover there is life beyond the swamp. 🙂

Being from California, I never thought I’d miss the days of the MSM 24-Hour watch of “What Brittany Spears or Lindsay Lohan will do next!” LOL! Also being from California, I should be used to the old bait and switch of voting. It’s hard not to get sucked in to the swamp. I mean, it’s absolutely everywhere you turn, especially now that I’m a mere 45 minute drive from the dang thing. I agree with jeffw5382…they really have underestimated us. It’s good to remember through all of history and all the atrocities and corrupt governments that the Church has survived (and even thrived) and will continue to survive long after the swamp dries up.
