You may laugh at my triggers if you like, I often do. Laughter is good medicine and it is somewhat funny to be triggered by the Babylon Bee, but I was.  This article popped up in my newsfeed, source of the world’s best fake news, ‘Everything Is Bad And The World Is Ending And You Shouldn’t Have Kids,’ Says Party Of Progress.”

Somewhat amusing, except, except, except, it was also distressing because I have talked to young people who have been nursed at the foot of this lie, this complete deception and they just break my heart. Adults, especially politicians, often don’t think about what they are saying and how their words might impact the children around them.

What the Bee intended as humor just brought tears to my eyes because I talk to some of these kids, I’ve given birth to some of these kids. They truly believe the world is going to end in ten years. They feel as if they can’t have kids of their own. They don’t see a future for themselves or anyone else. They are weighed down by environmental guilt, social guilt, endless shame about what has been done to the planet and shame about the human race itself.

And of course, try as you might, you can’t convince them of anything different. Life as we know it simply ends in ten years due to global warming. Those of us who are older and wiser understand the impermanence of the world around us, we realize that “life as we know it” ends every moment, every day, every week. But young people don’t yet have that understanding.

So when you believe you have no future, that anything you try to build will just be swallowed up by the destruction of the planet in ten years, it leads to depression, addiction, anxiety, nihilism, and an unwillingness to dream or create.  Add in a powerful message that to have kids is selfish, evil, and contributes to the world’s carbon footprint, and having children is now out of the question. Marriage is also a patriarchal evil and heteronormative, so scratch that one, too.

There really is a socio-political narrative that is destroying young people and it’s a complete  lie, a total deception.  It robs them of their future, their dreams, the possibility of  love and marriage,  the joys  of children. It takes away their willingness to build and innovate,  to create and to dream.

I often stand there with empty hands, unable to help, unable to just throw open the blinds and let the light in. But I remember what it was like, I remember those days myself. We didn’t have global warming, we had the threat of nuclear winter and the alleged coming ice age. We had the zero population people telling us that to have children was to doom millions to a slow death from starvation and famine.

A bit funny, I rebelled, I sold out to the man,  I defied the narrative as kids are prone to do. Everyday I pray this generation learns to do the same because what you are being sold is often nothing more then a pocket full of mumbles, a truckload of bovine poo, a bucket full of lies designed to sell a narrative.
