A huge amen to Mel’s post, “Do You Love yourself?” Go read it, it’s awesome.

Something that took me the longest time to realize, bullies don’t love themselves. Addicts don’t love themselves. Prideful people don’t love themselves. Abusers don’t love themselves. Narcissists don’t even love themselves, in fact it is often the “self” that has fractured and split away in that particular disorder.

When we don’t love ourselves properly, we are also unable to love God fully, and unable to love anyone else. This really is the essence of our faith and it is reaffirmed throughout the bible. One of my favorites is the woman with the perfume, “her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little.”

God said we were worth dying for. He made a tremendous investment in us. We actually don’t honor that great love of His with false humility, perpetual shame, or self loathing.

I could write volumes on this issue,  but I’ll spare you today and just leave you with Mel’s words, “True humility is agreeing with God, regardless of what we think about ourselves.”
