There’s a cute scene in the Beverly Hillbillies,  this fancy movie producer has been “tutoring” Ellie May and he decides, “let’s play Roman emperor and you can be my slave girl.”

So there he is beside the pool dressed in a bed sheet with laurels in his hair, trying desperately to invite Ellie May into the game. She of course, being a tomboy,  pure of heart,  and a backwards country girl at the same time, is completely baffled by his behavior.

He wants to wrestle? He wants to be assassinated in a grand political conspiracy? What’s with this Roman emperor thing? Finally she says well okay, if that’s really what you want, Et tu Brutus, and she pushes him into the pool.

Our devotional today is from the beatitudes, from Matthew five,  “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.” Always be yourself. Never be ashamed of who God made you to be. We live in a worldly world. Wisdom is often to be found in the opposite drection.

Also, It ain’t right for folks to go against nature.
