oz3Something I really struggle with, trying to explain to people, including my own kids, why they need to do the right thing these days.

Nobody else is doing the right thing.

Forget you, if I do that everyone will hate me!

What makes you think that’s the right thing in the first place?

Don’t good guys finish last?

No good deed goes unpunished and I’m not with stupid here.

Ai yi yi. We’re living in a world so full of moral ambiguity and subjectively defined reality that it makes these issues very difficult. You should do the right thing because I said so and because it is pleasing to God.

But I don’t believe in God, I’m a Buddhist now.

Fabulous, not only is that guy now dead, he abandoned his wife and newborn child to go find himself. How spiritual of him. He kind of reminds me that guy living off his girlfriend’s welfare check while supposedly finding himself in his guitar…..

So what? All over the internet you see Christians perverting scripture and condoning outright violence. There’s a group over there that is virtually editing every fallen women out of the bible, the woman at the well, the adulteress about to be stoned, Rahab in the wall of Jericho, like that doesn’t just scream massive sexual dysfunction heavily marinated in deeply rooted misogyny.

You know what God does to good and virtuous Christian women who faithfully serve Him? He punishes them with highly intelligent children too smart for their own good.

Like I said, no good deed goes unpunished.

We do the right thing anyway, we do it knowing full well nobody is ever going to praise us for it, that likely it will actually cost us something, social disapproval if nothing else. In fact, you can almost measure the very rightness of it by just how much resistance you encounter.

Like celebrating gay pride week and hanging  a tutu on the Lenin statue?

Nope, not really. Believe it or not, where we live that’s actually called conformity, marching along with the herd, being a wildebeest following the other wildebeests towards the cliff edge.

If you look like everyone else, sound like everyone else, do what everyone else is doing, you’re actually just being a rebel without a clue. If you’re going to be a rebel, at least buy a clue or a frontal lobe or something…..

I think that Pastor marrying gay people knows a whole lot more about religion than you do.

I think he does too, and so does the other one fighting his own brand of culture war, I think they all know a whole lot more about religion than I do, but than again, I’ve never been a big fan of religion. I’m not fighting a culture war, I’m fighting a spiritual war, one that has already been won, one that is now seated in victory at the right hand of the Father.

Seated in victory and anxiously waiting for you to just slip your hand into His and begin to walk with Him in the cool of the evenings, in His kingdom in the here and now. It’s a mad, mad world out there. Woe be to those who think they can navigate it alone.
