Perhaps I should have begun live blogging the RNC last night, jumped into the fray of all that melodrama, but I actually find drama a bit boring, especially the superficial kind delivered by Mediated Reality. I did have a chuckle over some headlines today however, “Ohio Delegation Having Fun with Seating Arrangements” and “7 Attendees Quarantined in Virus Outbreak.” That’s media hyperbole for, “we’re all going to die!” Sounds like great fun.
In truth I was simply busy spending time with the Lord and praising blueberries. I know blueberries, what a glutton, but the berries are on and ripe and luscious. Naturally I need to find a 101 ways to eat them.
I’m rather glad I spent some time with the Lord rather than the TV, because today the first thing I read on FB was, “we have a way of becoming just like the people we hang out with.” That is a modern way of informing kids to be careful of the company you keep. Never mind kids however, grownups need that reminder, too. There is a profound truth there. Pay attention to what you are paying attention too.
I am a total political junky that has frequently live blogged both the R and D conventions, ran delegate counts and constant updates, and made multiple political predictions. I am surprisingly accurate. I enjoy the rise and fall of politics, the heights of victory… and the way we are forever snatching defeat right out of her jaws.
Scandal! Highs and lows. Melodrama! What’s not to like?
Not this year, however. This year God said, “keep your eyes on Me and eat blue berries.” So, that is exactly what I did. I completely missed the high lights…and the low lights, too.

Hi, here are recipes for you!

My single Mom sent me to summer camp near Poland Springs, ME, and we campers used to gather blueberries and bring them to the cook for pies.
As I type this, my husband is listening to the live feed of RNC. wow. Our state of Ohio gave all our votes to Govenor Kasich – we voted this way. Not to worry, we have a King who reigns eternally over all.

I’ve never watched the conventions. In fact, we don’t watch or listen to the news. But we don’t want to be ignorant so we pick and choose how we stay up on current events. Last night however, I had to watch it. And it was inspiring! Nearly everyone was a believer, Godly and down to earth speakers with many surprises. And I took to my Twitter account and joined the positive tweeting fray. And then saw all paid DNC trolls going crazy. I doubt I’ll do it again, but I needed something to get me excited to vote this year. Donald J Trump has amazing supporters. Main stream America, red, white and blue. But JESUS is our only real hope….

Interesting because I’ve been getting the same feeling from God as well. Not to eat blueberries part unfortunately (although I do partake heavily!), but to stay out of the political fray this year and concentrate on His higher truth.

Interesting, Tricia, me too! It leaves me feeling a bit like a fish out of water, but God seems to want me there.
Can’t promise I won’t make an few snide political comments or laugh at some jokes, however. 🙂

Oh, I can’t promise that either! Lol 😉 Fish out of water feeling for me too because I am a political junkie as well.
I don’t think God is leading me away from discussing politics all together, but to avoid the shallow pettiness our culture feeds off of from it.
Eat blueberries and think of God, I like that.

I guess I keep waiting for a few bars of “Where are the clowns? There ought to be clowns.” Some of it would be melodramatic B movie material if it weren’t for the seriousness of what is happening. Since our country is going to be greatly impacted by what happens at these conventions we have to be acutely interested what is transpiring. Don’t you love Ben Carson?

Yeah, I’m usually right there watching every minute and wondering what’s wrong with the citizens of this country that they don’t care about the political process. But not this year. I feel burned by the political process. The strangle-hold the two major parties have on how it all works is so far from what our founders put down in the Constitution. And their candidates are so far from being Presidential, I think most everyone who speaks at the conventions is being less than candid. I have no enthusiasm one way or the other for this election. I simply want to pray that God accomplishes His purpose through it all.

I like this post.
“we have a way of becoming just like the people we hang out with.”
So true. Growing up, one of the things my grandmother and mother would always say to me: “Show me your friends, and I’ll tell you who you are.”
As scripture says – we’re only deceiving yourselves when we believe we can be exposed to evil communications and walk away unscathed.
(the politics I leave to you guys 🙂 )

I am experiencing a sense of freedom I haven’t had in decades. I literally have no strong affinity for either candidate. It’s like watching a game with two teams I don’t care about. It’s kind of fun, except I’m spending this week fighting Microsoft to install Windows 10 for “free”

LOL! I too have spent the week fighting with my computer. It’s nice to meet another political junky who is experiencing some new found freedom.
