You can’t fix stupid. I know this, it’s not rocket science. I’ve re-learned this a million times on the internet, too. Try as you might, stupid is just an impenetrable wall that cannot be scaled. There are alligators in the bottem of that moat and people puring hot oil on you from the top. You can lead a horse to water but you just cannot hold their head down and force them to drink. Why not? I have no idea. It just is what it is. You can’t fix stupid.
But sometimes I think, what if Jesus Christ had said that? What if He had believed it? What if He had thrown in the towel? What if rather than saying, “my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt, “ what if instead He had said, “Father, I’m sorry, but you just can’t fix stupid?”
I think that would have been a totally valid response. I mean, there is peer reviewed, imperical, cross referenced data, that proves exactly that. People are stupid and you just can’t fix stupid. I can provide half a dozen links from peer reveiwed science papers right now, as well as many credentialed and heavily lettered references from experts, the Alphabet Name people who Know Things.
I’m telling you, there are none so stupid as those who Know Things.
You can’t fix stupid. Thankfully Jesus Christ never said those words, although I suspect He empathizes with them. He’s been watching the stupid for a long, long, time.
You just can’t fix stupid, but I know Someone who can, Someone who does, Someone who has done exactly that, every single day for thousands of years. He has been fixing the stupid since forever.
As for some of His followers and some of His detractors however, sometimes you just have to say, “Bless their hard little hearts” and than start singing, Nothing but the blood of Jesus…

Do lions taste good? I have never even heard of someone trying to find out.

For what’s it worth, I know men who go on safaris, and they’ve told me that lion meat is good tasting. Some even prefer it to beef. At any rate, African tribesmen in some regions consider it a delicacy.
Back in pioneer days, our Frontiersmen used to hunt and eat mountain lions. Now they’re an endangered species, but it guess they must have thought the meat worth getting too.
It does seem like lion hunting is a risky way to get a steak, though. lol

When people hunt with spears, I can see why they might consider lion meat a delicacy.
When I use to hike in Colorado, I carried a big “walking” stick. Never saw a mountain lion. Don’t know how they taste. Not complaining.

Well there you go, Tom! Apparently some people actually eat lion.
I’ve seen many mountain lions and when I was a kid I actually threw one my peanut butter sandwich. I think it assumed I was crazy or something, because it just took the sandwich and left. Once when the kids and I were hiking, two mountain lions started following us from a distance, so I told the kids we had to make a whole lot of noise and appear really obnoxious. For once in their life they couldn’t do it, so I was left singing at the top of my lungs and jumping on stumps and waving coats over my head, trying to appear much bigger and more important than I was.

See we differ there IB – this is the same as Socrates saying that wisdom can’t be taught – it can but just not by telling or with the Socratic method.it has to be done by example and by getting buy in and then acting in the way in which you wish others to act.

I know we differ there, Paul. I think you’re just a bigger optimist than I am. You’re always free to prove me wrong. Shall I lend you my list of stupid people? 🙂

Bwahaha! You have Socrates in your side, so I’;d say your argument is pretty solid IB. But you know, you used to manage and I bet you can think of times when some one just started doing something your way because they thought about it and it sunk in and over time they came to accept that was the correct way to do it because they saw you make it work so often. It has to be trust and demonstrate. You work on defending the church – which i think is hopeless – and I’ll work on teaching the stupid and we’ll compare notes. ha!

LOL! The church and the stupid, sounds fair enough, Paul. Pretty equal struggle there. 🙂
I’ll remind the church however, when Christ returns He doesn’t come for the stupid people, He comes with a bone to pick with the churches! The least we should do is try to tidy the place up a bit.:)

I always feel stupid when I assume others aren’t so stupid, but when they are, I’m the one who looks stupid. It’s sad that the more cynical I am about humanity the more I am proven right.

Well, I guess I both agree and disagree. And maybe I even know how I can be both in IB’s side and on Paul’s side of this little controversy. I’ve often said that stupidity is a choice people make. And Jesus certainly teaches us that while many will continue to choose evil, rebellion, and every form of wrong all have the hope of choosing better, choosing healing because all are invited and can receive divine help.

I’m all about two things being true at the same time and faith is plumb full of paradoxes. We really can’t fix stupid and yet Christ did exactly that and there is evidence in the world that stupid gets fixed all the time. 🙂
