I’m chuckling here, that is actually not the title of this post, what I wanted to share was JS Park’s post called, What The Bible Talks About When It Talks About Women: A Mega-Post on Those Troubling “Anti-Women” Bible Verses

He briefly touches on a number of issues, and while I don’t fully agree with all his interpretations, I sure do appreciate the effort he put into it, and the way he focused on how context is everything, and relating these words to their historical references goes a long way towards understanding exactly what is being said.

This is a huge issue for some women, and for many non believers. I am buffed about the internet waves constantly, and frequently accused of following a misogynistic, oppressive religion. Sometimes that makes me laugh because that is so not the God I know, nor do I fit the stereotype some people seem to have. Conversely however, it also makes me very sad that there are people who flee from faith, who reject Jesus Christ Himself over what are often simple misunderstandings about scripture, perversions and distortions.

And yes, there are some alleged Christians who promote and advocate these distortions and do a great deal of harm in the world themselves. I got kicked out of one cultian group for actually arguing for the fact that women do indeed posess human souls. There is nothing new under the sun, and if human beings can foul and pervert something beautiful, someone, somewhere  will find a way. That doesn’t make it true, however.

There’s something very tribalistic about human beings, we get into these immediate hierarchies, who’s on top and who holds all the power, inferior versus superior, as if power were a limited resource and he who has it, must make sure someone else does not. All I can say is that that is the human world, the Kingdom works on abundance, overflow, more than enough for everyone. Who is at the top of that food chain? Jesus Christ always, but from there on down He turns things radically on their head for us, So the last shall be first, and the first last…..Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.….My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness…..Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

These are not the words of human hierarchies and social ladders, they are not words that advocate human quests for status and power, they are words that teach us that there is another way of perceiving things, that the way we think we understand things in the human world, is not the way God sees things.
